Christmas has been and gone, and for a lot of our pets there has been treats galore! To make your life easy, we've set up our very own free weight clinic. This is your opportunity to get advice about weight control methods and discuss your pets current diet with one of our qualified nurses.
The RSPCA estimates that around half of the cats and dogs in Britain are overweight and say that a pet being overweight can be just as cruel as being underweight. Research also shows that a large percentage of owners of overweight pets are not aware that their pet is not a healthy weight.
A lot of owners are unsure on whether or not their pet is actually overweight. We recommend you bring your pet in so we can weigh them without judgement or any cost to you.
An overweight pet can face a lot of health issues. Something as simple as getting up and moving can be a challenge for overweight pets and if they develop Arthritis then they could struggle even more. If you think your pet is struggling to move then bring them in as soon as possible.
Being overweight can contribute to many other problems such as the development of diabetes, skin disease, circulatory or respiratory problems. There is also a higher operation risk for your pet. All of these health issues contribute to overweight pets generally having a lower life expectancy than pets at a healthy weight.
Set five minutes aside and have a feel of your pets ribs. If you can feel them comfortably when applying a small amount of pressure then your pet is not classed as overweight. However, if you cannot feel your pets ribs without having to apply considerable pressure then please bring them in for their free weight check
Weight Clinic
What is the 'Weight Clinic'?
We are running free weight clinics at all of our branches.
A weight clinic is designed for owners to bring their Cat or Dog to see a nurse to discuss their pets weight. It is a very informal non-judgemental chat where you can get advice and work out an action plan for the best way to reduce your pets weight. You will get step-by step help to reaching your pets target weight
Unsure if your pet needs to lose weight?
Does your pet struggle to exercise and becomes out of breath?
Are you unable to feel your pets ribs or see a waistline?
Does your pets underbelly hang or nearly touch the ground?
Are you unsure about the best way to reduce your pets diet?
If you answered yes to any of the above then we advise that you make an appointment to see the nurse.
