Take care this summer!

Take time to consider your pets this summer. On a hot day most of us have the chance to keep ourselves cool by having a cold drink or getting out of the sun all together!

Our pets might not be so lucky!

When leaving our pets we should consider how hot it may get in the environment we have left them in. It is not ideal leaving them in a room like a conservatory with only windows and no escape.

Before you leave the house do a few checks:

  • Have they got access to enough water that will last them till you get home?
  • Can they get out of the sun and into the shade?
  • How long will I be a away, do I need a friend to check on my pet?

Even if it is not very warm when you leave the house it does not mean that it wont be later that day. Things like putting ice cubes in the water bowl or putting a fan on can make all the difference.

Dogs die in hot cars!

Dont leave your dog alone in a car! If it is warm outside then it will be even hotter in the car. If the temperature is 22 C outside then the temperature can soar up to 47 C in the car.

Also remember small animals like birds, cages should never be placed in a window, where they cant get any shade, even in winter.
